Pac Man Desk Organizer

The Idea

One of my original goals for GeekBuilders was to find ways to integrate some geek into everyday environments and this was the first idea I came up with. I cut, built and assembled this project at least 50-60 times in my head before I even bought the material for the project. It was planned as the second video for the channel and debuted in July of 2015.

The Process

I started with a basic Illustrator drawing that I was able to glue to the mdf and cut out the shapes on the bandsaw. Most of the build went as expected, I had all the necessary tools and materials to cutout and paint these pixel shaped icons and everything went as expected… except for when it cam to building the Pac Man stapler. The initial plan was sound; I disassembled an existing old staplers and semi-successfully transplanted the mechanism into its new mdf home, but in the end did not work well enough to call it a success.

The Result

While it did not come out exactly as expected, I loved the fact that it came out pretty close to how I envisioned it… and the video did pretty well too.
